What to Look Out For

Finding the Right Spare Part

For correct part selection, you need the manufacturer, engine model, and ideally the serial number. Service kits combine parts for an inspection.

Impellers and Cooling Water

The cooling water pump impeller is a wear part. Inspect it regularly and replace it according to the manufacturer’s specifications. A spare impeller belongs on board.

Sacrificial Anodes

Anodes protect the drive and metal parts from corrosion. The material depends on the water type: zinc or aluminum for saltwater, magnesium for freshwater. Replace anodes when they are heavily worn.

Filters, Oils, and Fuel

Oil, fuel, water, and air filters, as well as oils, should be selected according to the engine manufacturer’s specifications. Fuel additives can be useful depending on the fuel and storage time.
